Boston Hot Streak Continues with 7-5 Win
|
The Boston Whitecaps grabbed a win, 7-5, over the Fraser Valley Black Bears at The Studio. Boston designated hitter Jeremy Owusu went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He scored 3 times. Danny Arias, the winner, improved to 6-2. He held the Black Bears to 5 runs on 6 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 5. Nick Merritt earned the save for Boston, his 13th.
Brenton Perfect had a big 2-run double for the Whitecaps in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Boston leading 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Phil Korth and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Whitecaps ahead, 5-2.
"Pedal to the metal" is how Boston manager T.J. Hall described his team's approach.
The first-place Whitecaps have won 7 in a row.
