Sandy Springs Bats Cold in 6-0 Loss
|
The Beaumont Drillers and Sandy Springs Spartans completed their game despite the rain.
The Beaumont Drillers defeated the Sandy Springs Spartans, 6-0, at Drillers Stadium. Jim Carroll was a standout performer for Beaumont. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 1 he knocked in. Jake Testa, the winner, is now 6-1. He struck out 4 and walked 2 over 5.1 innings, while allowing no runs on 3 hits.
Jorge Gallegos had a big 2-run home run for the Drillers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Beaumont leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 27-year old left-handed pitcher Shuta Fukuda and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 9th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Drillers ahead, 4-0.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Gallegos.
Beaumont goes to 42-33, Sandy Springs to 41-33.
