The Marysville Monarchs, despite a fine performance by Madison pitcher Carlos Canales, grabbed a 3-2 win at The Hive. Canales allowed 1 run over 6.1 innings. The winner in relief was Juan Avalos. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Despite the win, the Monarchs still have a lousy 19-66 record.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Diego Ortega? The 19-year old catcher Ortega stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Marysville up, 3-1. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
