Hawks Tack 6-3 Loss on Pipe Fitters
|
The Boise Hawks bested the Niagara Falls Pipe Fitters, 6-3, at Pipe Fitters Park. Kyle Higgins was one of the standouts. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Cory Hardey, the winning pitcher, is now 2-1. He went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 4. Jim Kellar got the save, his 5th in 6 chances.
Boise used a clutch at-bat from Rogelio Ros to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Hawks ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Ros told the Boise Citizen. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
Despite the win, Boise still has a godawful 20-64 record.
