Cornhuskers Suffer 6-1 Setback
|
Getting offensive support from Roy Rudolph, the Fraser Valley Black Bears topped the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 6-1. Rudolph was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Black Bears. Raul Olveda, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 5 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 8-4. The Black Bears win now puts them at 40-52.
Fraser Valley won the game in part because of Matt Weld. The left fielder ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Black Bears ahead, 3-1. For the game, Weld had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Weld told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
