Down Goes DeKalb, 9-4, to Sandy Springs
|
The rain came, as predicted, but the Sandy Springs Spartans and DeKalb Cornhuskers were able to complete their ballgame.
The performance of Mike Shields proved critical in helping Sandy Springs beat DeKalb, 9-4. The Spartans shortstop went 4 for 5 with a triple and 3 singles. Sandy Springs reliever Steve Roth picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Tony Garza was saddled with the loss.
Ian Sturgeon hit a bases-clearing triple off Francisco Carbajal in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Spartans in front, 7-4. Sturgeon had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.
"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said DeKalb manager Kinnojo Hara.
With the win, Sandy Springs has a record of 57-37. DeKalb falls to 41-54.
