Sandy Springs and Spokane duked it out and the Spartans came out victorious.

Starting pitcher Steve Roth fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Sandy Springs Spartans stymie the Spokane Bulldogs, 5-2. Roth, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Josh Wahl earned his 24th save in 27 chances.

It could have been a different outcome for Sandy Springs, had it not been for Mike Shields, the 23-year old shortstop . Shields contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Sandy Springs up, 3-2.
