Tight Tilt Goes to Spartans, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Sandy Springs Spartans and the Wichita Wolverines, 23-year old left-handed pitcher Mike Hampton proved to be the difference. The Sandy Springs left-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Spartans win. Hampton got the win, improving to 2-0. He gave up 6 hits and walked 3 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Josh Wahl notched his 26th save of the season.
Had Ruben Campos not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Campos hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Spartans.
"This was a tough loss," said Wichita manager John Bunce. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
The Spartans, at 55-49, sit in 4th place in the TML AA Bruce Bochy Division.
