Lumberjacks Nip Black Bears, 5-4
|
Adirondack catcher Max Starcher contributed significantly to his team's 5-4 win over the Fraser Valley Black Bears. Starcher, who is tied for 2nd in the RAA in bases on balls with 84, went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Lumberjacks. Adirondack reliever Rafael Rivas picked up the win to move to 3-2. Rick Ezell suffered the loss. Jose Perez converted his 15th save in 17 tries.
Had Chris Roberts not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Roberts hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Lumberjacks.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Roberts told the Adirondack Bulletin. "But we take nothing for granted."
The Lumberjacks improved their record to 61-66 with the win over Fraser Valley.
