Marysville Wins, 4-3, Over Cornhuskers
|
The DeKalb Cornhuskers and Marysville Monarchs provided some drama for the home crowd.
The Marysville Monarchs beat the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 4-3, at The Corn Crib. The win was due in part to first baseman Philip Long, who was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Marysville reliever Brandon Martin picked up the win, upping his record to 7-6. Edgar Gonzalez absorbed the loss.
Long had a game-changing double in the top of the eighth. On a 2-2 changeup from Edgar Gonzalez, he banged a run-scoring double to right, giving the Monarchs a 4-3 lead. It was the 22nd double of the year for Long.
After the game, Marysville manager Michael Fitzgerald applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
The Monarchs are now 64-64.
