Rudolph Excels, But Beetlecats Win
|
The inspired effort of Adirondack first baseman Mike Rudolph was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-4, to the Buzzard's Bay Beetlecats. Rudolph hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Justin Sweat earned the win to go to 8-13. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. At 72-63, the Beetlecats claim third place in the RCL AA Gene Mauch Division.
Chris Ratliff had a big 2-run double for the Beetlecats in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Buzzard's Bay leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from 28-year old left-handed pitcher Bill McLean and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 24th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Beetlecats ahead, 5-2.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Ratliff told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
