Maulers Turn Away Beats, 5-3
|
Fans of the Martinsburg Maulers who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Martinsburg win over the visiting Kingston Beats, 5-3. Miguel Garcia started for the home team against Luis Sanabria. Miguel Garcia earned accolades for his performance. In 6 innings, Garcia surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 13 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Jonathan Pagan closed the game out for Martinsburg, earning his 1st save.
The Maulers got a big boost from designated hitter Jim Longley who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Beats hurler Luis Sanabria. It was his 3rd walk of the season and put Martinsburg on top, 1-0.
"It's not by accident that Miguel finds ways to get outs," said Martinsburg skipper Austin Alexander.
