Royal Oak pitcher Mario Mendoza did his part in helping his team beat the Santa Clara Vampyres, 8-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Mendoza yielded 2 runs over 8.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 4, and struck out 5. His record improves to 1-0. The win gives the Leprechauns a record of 4-4.

Matt Cox had a big bases-clearing triple for the Leprechauns in the top of the sixth inning. With Royal Oak leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 21-year old left-handed pitcher Manny Alvarez and swatted a triple to right. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Leprechauns ahead, 5-0.

Mendoza told a Royal Oak Times reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
