Saint John Alpines starter Frank Medina pitched effectively against the Surrey Thunderbirds at Surrey Field. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 6-4 win. Medina, the winner, moves to 1-0. Saint John used a well-timed hit by Luis Camacho to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Alpines ahead, 5-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"Frank had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Saint John manager Clarence Byrd.
