Maulers Handed 8-5 Loss
The Surrey Thunderbirds downed the Martinsburg Maulers, 8-5. The hitting star was left fielder Luis Polanco. Polanco went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs for the Thunderbirds. Ricardo Gutierrez came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. The loss makes Martinsburg 9-10.

Franklin Benevidez had a big bases-clearing double for the Thunderbirds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Surrey trailing 4-2 and the bases loaded, he got a splitter from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Dylan Horvat and swatted a double to right. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunderbirds ahead, 5-4.

"We'll build on this win," said Benevidez.
