The Victoria Cougars converted a terrific effort from starter Orlando Cuevas into a win over the Santa Clara Vampyres at Cougars Park. The Cougars won the game by a final score of 5-2. The Vampyres, now 7-13 this season, have struggled to play .500 ball.
Esteban Soto had a big 2-run home run for the Cougars in the bottom of the third inning. With Victoria leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Armando Tavares and swatted a home run to left. It was his 2nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cougars ahead, 3-0.
"When their pitchers are leaving stuff over the heart of the plate, we're not missing it," said Victoria manager Tony Varela.
