Alpines Deal Vampyres 11-8 Defeat
The Saint John Alpines downed the Santa Clara Vampyres, 11-8, at Santa Clara Stadium. Al Ceja led the way, going 2-for-6 for Saint John. Saint John reliever Edwin Mares snagged the win, upping his record to 2-0. Agustin de la Cruz shouldered the loss. Early on, the Alpines, at 22-4, have played an impressive brand of baseball.

Saint John center fielder Jose Calderon contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the first. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 22nd hit of the season and put the Alpines ahead, 2-0.

"We take it day by day here," said Calderon, "and today was a good one for us."
