Super Swinger -- Barrientos Slams 5 Hits
|
Even as a kid, Jairo Barrientos said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Steelhounds Grounds, Barrientos showed how well he learned that lesson.
The 19-year-old catcher had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Brighton Steelhounds, helping his team knock off the Martinsburg Maulers by a score of 23-9.
"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did."
Jairo Barrientos singled in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 8th.
So far this season, Barrientos is hitting .307 with 1 home run, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He has 27 hits in 88 at-bats and a .404 OBP.
