Bulldogs Need Extra Frames to Get Past 49'ers
Brian Day did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Long Beach State 49'ers from losing the game, 7-6, to the Mississippi State Bulldogs in 14 innings at Ballpark of Macclenny College. Day went 3 for 5 with a double, 2 singles, and 3 walks. Sam Petway earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record is now 1-0. The Bulldogs move to 18-13 with the win, while the 49'ers drop to 20-11.

Mississippi State used the timely hitting of Chris Wilson to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 14th inning to put the Bulldogs on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Mississippi State field general Pat Sheffield.
