Streaking Blue Jays Win Another One, 7-2
|
Led by 22-year-old Ben Waugh, the Toronto Blue Jays downed the Martinsburg Maulers, 7-2. Waugh was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for Toronto. Danny Corona went 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. The right-hander, who leads the TLA in quality starts with 10, struck out 2 and walked 2. With the win, he's now 12-0 this season. Toronto has won 12 straight games.
Waugh contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Toronto in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Waugh took a splitter from Jorge Melgoza and stroked the home run to left-center. His 22nd home run of the season allowed the Blue Jays to leap in front, 3-2.
"There's losing your stroke and finding your stroke," said Waugh. "I guess I've found mine."
