In a low-scoring clash between Iowa State and South Carolina, pitcher Chris Self was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned player of the game honors for Iowa State in the 3-0 win. South Carolina has now lost 4 in a row.

Joe Strickland had a big 2-run single for the Cyclones in the bottom of the first inning. With Iowa State leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a circle change from Troy Dougherty and stroked the single to right. It was his 42nd hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cyclones ahead, 3-0.
