The Victoria Cougars beat the Rancho Cucamonga, 5-4, in part because of designated hitter Miguel Castaneda. He was 1 for 1 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The winner in relief was Jesus Arcia. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. He now owns a record of 2-0. Getting the save was Joe Pierce, his 17th.
Castaneda had a timely hit for Victoria in the top of the seventh. With Victoria trailing 2-0, he turned a 1-0 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season, making it 3-2, Victoria.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Victoria manager Tony Varela.
With the win, Victoria upped its record to 39-25.
