Falcons Fall to Martinsburg, 10-1

The skies opened up and the rain fell at Falcons Field.
Led by Eric Phillips, the Martinsburg Maulers defeated the River Falls Falcons, 10-1. Phillips, a native of New Albany, Ohio, went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 5 for the Maulers. Miguel Garcia got the win, improving to 8-3. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 4 and walking 3.
Martinsburg right fielder Josh Costa contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the third. With two down, he hit a splitter to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 13th hit of the season and put the Maulers ahead, 2-0.
Said losing manager Ryan Cunningham: "We did everything to set the stage for them to beat us."
The losses continue to mount for River Falls, which has now dropped 6 in a row.
