Aiken Charts 5-3 Win Over Saint John
|
Due in large part to designated hitter Malachi Wichert, the Aiken Thoroughbreds sunk the Saint John Alpines, 5-3. Wichert was 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Alex Charco was called on to finish, recording his 12th save. Aiken, at 57-15, is cruising.
Ignacio Montoya came through with a big-time hit for Aiken. The right fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"I had some good swings out there," said Wichert.
