The USC Trojans beat the Tulane Green Wave by a score of 8-2. USC designated hitter Jayvon Carter deserved the lion's share of the credit. Carter was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Trojans. Steve Saeger, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 2-1. The second-place Trojans now have a record of 29-16.
Carter had a key at-bat for USC in the bottom of the first. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season and gave USC an early 3-0 lead.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Carter.
