Thoroughbreds Win, 8-1, Extend Streak to 6 Games
|
Dedicated fans weathered the storm to watch their beloved Thoroughbreds beat the Cucamonga.
Aiken pitcher Sal Santiago had a large part in his team subduing the Rancho Cucamonga, 8-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Santiago yielded 1 run over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 13. His record improves to 4-4.
Malachi Wichert had a big grand slam home run for the Thoroughbreds in the bottom of the second inning. With Aiken trailing 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from Jose Magana and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 5th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thoroughbreds ahead, 4-1.
"It wasn't a very good day at the ballpark," said Rancho manager Tony Vargas.
Aiken has now won 6 straight, while the Cucamonga have lost 9 in a row.
