The Bloomington Hoosiers beat the San Carlos Pipers, 3-2, in part because of first baseman Ieyoshi Tamaki. He went 2-2 with 2 singles and a walk. The win cannot erase the fact that Bloomington still has a disappointing 31-62 record.
Bloomington shortstop Ronny Rivas contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a cutter to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 67th hit of the season and put the Hoosiers ahead, 2-0.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Tamaki.
