Pipers Lose Big to Thoroughbreds, 12-0
The Aiken Thoroughbreds clobbered the San Carlos Pipers, 12-0, at Pipers Grove. Leading the onslaught was Malachi Wichert. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for Aiken. Loan Gérard earned the win to go to 11-7. He allowed no runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work. Now 74-29, Aiken has won 18 consecutive games.

Aiken won the game in part because of Jose Cortez. The second baseman ripped a grand slam home run in the top of the third inning to put the Thoroughbreds ahead, 6-0. For the game, Cortez had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"We stunk tonight," said losing manager Eddie Garcia, matter-of-factly.
