Surrey Collects 3-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring clash between Surrey and Santa Clara, pitcher Bernard Leroy was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned praise for his performance in the 3-1 Thunderbirds win. Leroy, now 4-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. After today's action, Surrey sits at 69-77; Santa Clara slips to 92-54.
Ben Lewis took Santa Clara hurler Alex Villarreal deep in the bottom of the third. His 2-run home run put the Thunderbirds on top, 2-1. In all, Lewis had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"Makes our job easier," said Lewis, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
