Aiken beat Springfield at Aiken Stadium, escaping with a 6-5 win. The win in large part was due to designated hitter Malachi Wichert. He was 2-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Aiken reliever Conor Brown picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Danny Carabello was saddled with the loss. The first-place Thoroughbreds sport a record of 108-44.

Wichert had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-1 sinker from Danny Carabello, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Thoroughbreds a 6-5 lead. It was the 22nd home run of the year for Wichert.

"I had some good swings out there," said Wichert.
