Swallows Come Back Late to Top Bay Stars
|
Yokohama got a terrific performance from right fielder Akinobu Saito, but it wasn't enough to beat the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. Tokyo Yakult won the Cuckoos Stadium contest, 9-6. Saito was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Gu Pi, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. The third-place Swallows have won 4 straight.
Tokyo Yakult took the lead in the top of the eighth. With no one out and the bases loaded, Kenishi Matsuoka stroked a 2-run double to make it 7-5, Swallows.
"We came out aggressive," said Swallows manager Chris Lannigan. "We came out swinging the bats."
