Paz Propels Maulers to 12-4 Win
|
The Martinsburg Maulers easily defeated the Kingston Beats, 12-4, at Maulers Park, with first baseman Arturo Paz a main contributor to the win. He was 3-5 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for Martinsburg. Steve Snyder picked up the win in relief for Martinsburg, while Bill Cahoon took the loss. The win gives Martinsburg a season record of 99-63.
An inflection point occurred with no one out in the bottom of the third. That's when Maulers shortstop Daniel Velarde hit a cutter from Bill Cahoon for a 2-run single. Just like that, Martinsburg was up, 5-4.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Velarde told reporters after the game.
